Minecraft is a sandbox gaming formerly created by Swedish game developer Markus "Notch" Persson, and developed and publicized by Mojang later. The creative and building aspects of Minecraft permit players to construct constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D procedurally generated world. Other activities in the overall game include exploration, resource gathering, crafting, and battle. Multiple gameplay settings are available, including survival mode where the player must acquire resources to create the global world and maintain health, a creative mode where players have unlimited resources to build with and the ability to fly, an excursion method where players can play custom maps created by other players, and a spectator mode where players can take flight around and clip through blocks, but cannot place or ruin any. The PC version of the game is noted because of its modding scene, where a dedicated community creates new gameplay mechanics, items, and resources for the game.Minecraft received compliment from critics after release, and received numerous accolades and accolades. As of 2016 June, over 106 million copies have been sold across all platforms, with more than 40 million unique players each full month, rendering it the best-selling PC game up to now and the second best-selling gaming of all time, only behind the many releases of Tetris. In September 2014, Microsoft announced a deal to buy Mojang and the Minecraft intellectual property for US$2.5 billion, with the acquisition later being completed two months.

Minecraft is a three-dimensional sandbox game that has no specific goals for the ball player to perform, allowing players a great amount of liberty in choosing how to learn the gameHowever, there is an achievements system. Gameplay by default is first person, but players have the choice to experience in third person function. The core gameplay revolves around breaking and placing blocks. The overall game world comprises rough 3D objects--mainly cubes--arranged in a fixed grid pattern and representing different materials, such as dirt, stone, various ores, water, lava, tree trunks, etc. While players can move widely across the world, objects can only just be placed at set locations on the grid. Players can gather these material blocks and place them anywhere else, thus enabling various constructions. In the beginning of the game, the gamer is positioned on the surface of an procedurally generated and almost infinite game world. The global world is divided into biomes ranging from deserts to jungles to snowfield. Players can walk over the terrain consisting of plains, mountains, forests, caves, and different water bodies. The in-game time system practices a full night and day pattern, with one full cycle lasting 20 real-time minutes. Throughout the course of the game, players face various non-player individuals known as mobs, including animals, villagers and hostile animals. Non-hostile animals--such as cows, pigs, and chickens--can be hunted for crafting and food materials, and spawn in the daytime. By contrast, hostile mobs--such as large spiders, skeletons, and zombies--spawn during nighttime or in dark places, such as caves. Some Minecraft-unique animals have been known by reviewers, such as the Creeper, an exploding creature that sneaks through to the gamer; and the Enderman, a creature having the ability to teleport and grab blocks.
