Minecraft is a sandbox video game formerly created by Swedish game custom made Markus "Notch" Persson, and developed and published by Mojang later. The creative and building areas of Minecraft allow players to generate constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D procedurally generated world. Alternative activities in the game include exploration, source gathering, crafting, and combat. Multiple gameplay modes are available, including survival mode where the player must acquire resources to construct the world and maintain health, a creative mode where players have unlimited resources to generate with and the ability to fly, an excursion setting where players can play custom maps created by other players, and a spectator setting where players can journey around and clip through blocks, but cannot place or damage any. The Computer version of the overall game is noted because of its modding scene, where a dedicated community creates new gameplay mechanics, items, and assets for the overall game.Minecraft received praise from critics upon release, and gained numerous awards and accolades. As of June 2016, over 106 million copies have been sold across all platforms, with more than 40 million unique players each full month, making it the best-selling PC game up to now and the next best-selling video game of most right time, only behind the many releases of Tetris. In 2014 September, Microsoft declared a deal to buy Mojang and the Minecraft intellectual property for US$2.5 billion, with the acquisition later being completed two months.

Minecraft is a three-dimensional sandbox game that has no specific goals for the gamer to perform, allowing players plenty of freedom in choosing how to play the gameHowever, there can be an achievement system. Gameplay by default is first person, but players have the choice to experiment with in third person mode. The core gameplay revolves around positioning and breaking blocks. The game world is composed of rough 3D objects--mainly cubes--arranged in a fixed grid pattern and representing different materials, such as dirt, stone, various ores, water, lava, tree trunks, etc. While players can move widely around the world, objects can only be positioned at permanent locations on the grid. Players can accumulate these materials blocks and place them elsewhere, thus enabling various constructions. In the very beginning of the game, the ball player is put on the top of a procedurally generated and almost infinite game world. The global world is split into biomes ranging from deserts to jungles to snowfield. Players can walk across the terrain consisting of plains, mountains, forests, caves, and different water bodies. The in-game time system employs a complete night and day circuit, with one full cycle sustained 20 real-time minutes. Through the entire course of the overall game, players come across various non-player people known as mobs, including pets, villagers and hostile animals. Non-hostile animals--such as cows, pigs, and chickens--can be hunted for food and crafting materials, and spawn in the daytime. In comparison, hostile mobs--such as large spiders, skeletons, and zombies--spawn during nighttime or in dark places, such as caves. Some Minecraft-unique creatures have been mentioned by reviewers, like the Creeper, an exploding creature that sneaks up on the gamer; and the Enderman, a creature having the ability to teleport and grab blocks.
