Minecraft is a sandbox gaming at first created by Swedish game developer Markus "Notch" Persson, and developed and published by Mojang later. The creative and building aspects of Minecraft allow players to construct constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D procedurally produced world. Alternative activities in the overall game include exploration, tool gathering, crafting, and combat. Multiple gameplay methods are available, including survival setting where the player must acquire resources to construct the world and maintain health, a creative function where players have unlimited resources to create with and the ability to fly, an experience mode where players can play custom maps created by other players, and a spectator setting where players can journey around and clip through blocks, but cannot place or damage any. The PC version of the game is noted because of its modding scene, in which a dedicated community creates new gameplay mechanics, items, and investments for the game.Minecraft received compliment from critics upon release, and received numerous accolades and awards. As of 2016 June, over 106 million copies have been sold across all platforms, with more than 40 million unique players each full month, making it the best-selling PC game as of yet and the second best-selling video game of all time, only behind the many releases of Tetris. In September 2014, Microsoft announced a deal to buy Mojang and the Minecraft intellectual property for US$2.5 billion, with the acquisition being completed two months later.

Minecraft is a three-dimensional sandbox game that does not have any specific goals for the gamer to accomplish, allowing players a great amount of freedom in choosing how to try out the gameHowever, there can be an success system. Gameplay by default is first person, but players have the option to experience in third person setting. The core gameplay revolves around breaking and putting blocks. The overall game world comprises rough 3D objects--mainly cubes--arranged in a fixed grid pattern and representing different materials, such as dirt, stone, various ores, water, lava, tree trunks, etc. While players can move freely around the world, objects can only just be placed at fixed locations on the grid. Players can gather these materials blocks and place them in other places, enabling various constructions thus.In the beginning of the game, the participant is located on the top of the procedurally produced and practically infinite game world. The globe is divided into biomes which range from deserts to jungles to snowfield. Players can walk over the terrain consisting of plains, mountains, forests, caves, and various water bodies. The in-game time system comes after a night and day routine, with one full routine long lasting 20 real-time minutes. Through the entire course of the game, players come across various non-player characters known as mobs, including pets, villagers and hostile creatures. Non-hostile animals--such as cows, pigs, and chickens--can be hunted for crafting and food materials, and spawn in the day time. By contrast, hostile mobs--such as large spiders, skeletons, and zombies--spawn during nighttime or in dark places, such as caves. Some Minecraft-unique creatures have been observed by reviewers, such as the Creeper, an exploding creature that sneaks up on the gamer; and the Enderman, a creature with the ability to teleport and grab blocks.
