Minecraft is a sandbox gaming formerly created by Swedish game designer Markus "Notch" Persson, and later developed and posted by Mojang. The creative and building aspects of Minecraft enable players to build constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D procedurally made world. Alternative activities in the overall game include exploration, source of information gathering, crafting, and fight. Multiple gameplay settings are available, including survival mode where the player must acquire resources to generate the global world and maintain health, a creative mode where players have unlimited resources to generate with and the capability to fly, an experience function where players can play custom maps created by other players, and a spectator method where players can take a flight around and clip through blocks, but cannot place or damage any. The PC version of the game is noted because of its modding scene, in which a dedicated community creates new gameplay technicians, items, and investments for the game.Minecraft received praise from critics after release, and acquired numerous honours and accolades. As of 2016 June, over 106 million copies have been sold across all platforms, with an increase of than 40 million unique players each month, making it the best-selling PC game up to now and the next best-selling gaming ever, only behind the many releases of Tetris. In 2014 September, Microsoft announced a package to buy Mojang and the Minecraft intellectual property for US$2.5 billion, with the acquisition being completed 8 weeks later.
Minecraft is a three-dimensional sandbox game that has no specific goals for the gamer to accomplish, allowing players plenty of flexibility in choosing how to experiment with the gameHowever, there can be an achievements system. Gameplay by default is first person, but players have the choice to experience in third person setting. The core gameplay revolves around placing and breaking blocks. The game world comprises rough 3D objects--mainly cubes--arranged in a set grid pattern and representing different materials, such as dirt, stone, various ores, water, lava, tree trunks, etc. While players can move across the world freely, objects can only be located at predetermined locations on the grid. Players can collect these material blocks and place them elsewhere, enabling various constructions thus.In the beginning of the game, the player is located on the surface of an procedurally generated and almost infinite game world. The global world is divided into biomes ranging from deserts to jungles to snowfield. Players can walk across the terrain consisting of plains, mountains, forests, caves, and different water bodies. The in-game time system uses a complete night and day cycle, with one full routine long lasting 20 real-time minutes. Throughout the course of the game, players come across various non-player characters known as mobs, including pets or animals, villagers and hostile creatures. Non-hostile animals--such as cows, pigs, and chickens--can be hunted for food and crafting materials, and spawn in the daytime. In comparison, hostile mobs--such as large spiders, skeletons, and zombies--spawn during nighttime or in dark places, such as caves. Some Minecraft-unique animals have been observed by reviewers, such as the Creeper, an exploding creature that sneaks up on the player; and the Enderman, a creature having the ability to teleport and pick up blocks.
