Minecraft is a sandbox gaming originally created by Swedish game creator Markus "Notch" Persson, and later developed and posted by Mojang. The creative and building areas of Minecraft enable players to construct constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D procedurally generated world. Alternative activities in the overall game include exploration, resource gathering, crafting, and combat. Multiple gameplay methods are available, including survival mode where the player must acquire resources to build the global world and maintain health, a creative mode where players have unlimited resources to build with and the capability to fly, an adventure method where players can play custom maps created by other players, and a spectator mode where players can travel around and clip through blocks, but cannot place or eliminate any. The PC version of the overall game is noted for its modding scene, in which a dedicated community creates new gameplay mechanics, items, and belongings for the overall game.Minecraft received reward from critics after release, and received numerous accolades and accolades. As of June 2016, over 106 million copies have been sold across all platforms, with more than 40 million unique players every month, making it the best-selling PC game up to now and the second best-selling gaming of most right time, only behind the various releases of Tetris. In September 2014, Microsoft declared a deal to buy Mojang and the Minecraft intellectual property for US$2.5 billion, with the acquisition being completed 8 weeks later.
Minecraft is a three-dimensional sandbox game that has no specific goals for the player to accomplish, allowing players plenty of independence in choosing how to experience the gameHowever, there is an achievement system. Gameplay by default is first person, but players have the option to try out in third person method. The core gameplay revolves around breaking and positioning blocks. The overall game world comprises rough 3D objects--mainly cubes--arranged in a set grid pattern and representing different materials, such as dirt, stone, various ores, water, lava, tree trunks, etc. While players can move across the world freely, objects can only be put at predetermined locations on the grid. Players can accumulate these material blocks and place them in other places, enabling various constructions thus.In the beginning of the game, the gamer is positioned on the surface of a procedurally made and virtually infinite game world. The global world is split into biomes ranging from deserts to jungles to snowfield. Players can walk over the terrain consisting of plains, mountains, forests, caves, and various water bodies. Throughout the course of the game, players come across various non-player individuals known as mobs, including pets or animals, villagers and hostile animals. Non-hostile animals--such as cows, pigs, and chickens--can be hunted for food and crafting materials, and spawn in the daytime. In comparison, hostile mobs--such as large spiders, skeletons, and zombies--spawn during nighttime or in dark places, such as caves. Some Minecraft-unique animals have been noted by reviewers, like the Creeper, an exploding creature that sneaks through to the player; and the Enderman, a creature with the ability to teleport and grab blocks.
