Minecraft is a sandbox gaming originally created by Swedish game custom made Markus "Notch" Persson, and developed and posted by Mojang later. The creative and building aspects of Minecraft permit players to build constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D procedurally produced world. Other activities in the game include exploration, reference gathering, crafting, and combat. Multiple gameplay modes are available, including survival mode where in fact the player must acquire resources to make the global world and maintain health, a creative method where players have unlimited resources to generate with and the ability to fly, an excursion method where players can play custom maps created by other players, and a spectator function where players can travel around and clip through blocks, but cannot place or demolish any. The Computer version of the overall game is noted because of its modding scene, where a dedicated community creates new gameplay mechanics, items, and investments for the game.Minecraft received praise from critics upon release, and won numerous honors and accolades. As of 2016 June, over 106 million copies have been sold across all platforms, with more than 40 million unique players every month, making it the best-selling PC game at this point and the second best-selling gaming of all time, only behind the many releases of Tetris. In September 2014, Microsoft announced a package to buy Mojang and the Minecraft intellectual property for US$2.5 billion, with the acquisition later being completed 8 weeks.

Gameplay by default is first person, but players have the choice to try out in third person mode. The core gameplay revolves around breaking and putting blocks. The game world comprises rough 3D objects--mainly cubes--arranged in a set grid pattern and representing different materials, such as dirt, stone, various ores, water, lava, tree trunks, etc. While players can move across the world freely, objects can only just be placed at fixed locations on the grid. Players can accumulate these materials blocks and place them elsewhere, allowing for various constructions thus.In the beginning of the game, the participant is located on the top of the procedurally made and virtually infinite game world. The entire world is split into biomes ranging from deserts to jungles to snowfield. Players can walk over the terrain consisting of plains, mountains, forests, caves, and various water bodies. The in-game time system uses a day and night pattern, with one full routine prolonged 20 real-time minutes. Throughout the course of the overall game, players face various non-player character types known as mobs, including pets or animals, villagers and hostile animals. Non-hostile animals--such as cows, pigs, and chickens--can be hunted for crafting and food materials, and spawn in the daytime. In comparison, hostile mobs--such as large spiders, skeletons, and zombies--spawn during nighttime or in dark places, such as caves. Some Minecraft-unique animals have been observed by reviewers, including the Creeper, an exploding creature that sneaks up on the gamer; and the Enderman, a creature having the ability to teleport and pick up blocks.
