Minecraft is a sandbox video game at first created by Swedish game designer Markus "Notch" Persson, and developed and printed by Mojang later. The creative and building aspects of Minecraft enable players to develop constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D procedurally produced world. Alternative activities in the game include exploration, reference gathering, crafting, and combat. Multiple gameplay modes are available, including survival mode where the player must acquire resources to develop the global world and keep maintaining health, a creative method where players have unlimited resources to create with and the ability to fly, an experience setting where players can play custom maps created by other players, and a spectator function where players can journey around and clip through blocks, but cannot place or kill any. The Personal computer version of the overall game is noted because of its modding scene, where a dedicated community creates new gameplay mechanics, items, and property for the overall game.Minecraft received praise from critics after release, and acquired numerous awards and accolades. As of 2016 June, over 106 million copies have been sold across all platforms, with more than 40 million unique players each month, making it the best-selling PC game to date and the next best-selling gaming of all right time, only behind the many releases of Tetris. In 2014 September, Microsoft declared a package to buy Mojang and the Minecraft intellectual property for US$2.5 billion, with the acquisition later being completed two months.

Gameplay by default is first person, but players have the option to experience in third person mode. The core gameplay revolves around breaking and putting blocks. The overall game world comprises rough 3D objects--mainly cubes--arranged in a set grid pattern and representing different materials, such as dirt, stone, various ores, water, lava, tree trunks, etc. While players can move across the world freely, objects can only be placed at preset locations on the grid. Players can get these material place and blocks them anywhere else, enabling various constructions thus.At the start of the game, the ball player is placed on the top of the procedurally generated and practically infinite game world. The global world is split into biomes which range from deserts to jungles to snowfield. Players can walk across the terrain comprising plains, mountains, forests, caves, and different water bodies. The in-game time system comes after a night and day cycle, with one full cycle lasting 20 real-time minutes. Through the entire course of the overall game, players come across various non-player individuals known as mobs, including family pets, villagers and hostile animals. Non-hostile animals--such as cows, pigs, and chickens--can be hunted for food and crafting materials, and spawn in the day time. By contrast, hostile mobs--such as large spiders, skeletons, and zombies--spawn during nighttime or in dark places, such as caves. Some Minecraft-unique animals have been known by reviewers, such as the Creeper, an exploding creature that sneaks through to the ball player; and the Enderman, a creature having the ability to teleport and grab blocks.
