Minecraft is a sandbox video game originally created by Swedish game custom Markus "Notch" Persson, and developed and posted by Mojang later. The creative and building areas of Minecraft allow players to generate constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D procedurally made world. Other activities in the game include exploration, learning resource gathering, crafting, and combat. Multiple gameplay settings are available, including survival method where the player must acquire resources to develop the world and maintain health, a creative mode where players have unlimited resources to make with and the capability to fly, an experience function where players can play custom maps created by other players, and a spectator mode where players can travel around and clip through blocks, but cannot place or kill any. The Laptop or computer version of the game is noted because of its modding scene, where a dedicated community creates new gameplay technicians, items, and property for the game.Minecraft received reward from critics after release, and triumphed in numerous accolades and prizes. As of 2016 June, over 106 million copies have been sold across all platforms, with more than 40 million unique players each full month, making it the best-selling PC game currently and the next best-selling video game ever, only behind the many releases of Tetris. In 2014 September, Microsoft announced a deal to buy Mojang and the Minecraft intellectual property for US$2.5 billion, with the acquisition later being completed 8 weeks.

Minecraft is a three-dimensional sandbox game that does not have any specific goals for the gamer to perform, allowing players a great amount of independence in choosing how to experiment with the gameHowever, there can be an accomplishment system. Gameplay by default is first person, but players have the choice to play in third person mode. The core gameplay revolves around breaking and positioning blocks. The game world comprises rough 3D objects--mainly cubes--arranged in a fixed grid pattern and representing different materials, such as dirt, stone, various ores, water, lava, tree trunks, etc. While players can move around the world freely, objects can only be positioned at resolved locations on the grid. Players can gather these materials place and blocks them anywhere else, allowing for various constructions thus.In the beginning of the game, the player is located on the surface of an procedurally produced and virtually infinite game world. The globe is divided into biomes which range from deserts to jungles to snowfield. Players can walk across the terrain comprising plains, mountains, forests, caves, and different water bodies. The in-game time system comes after a full night and day circuit, with one full cycle sustained 20 real-time minutes. Through the entire course of the game, players face various non-player individuals known as mobs, including pets, villagers and hostile animals. Non-hostile animals--such as cows, pigs, and chickens--can be hunted for food and crafting materials, and spawn in the day time. By contrast, hostile mobs--such as large spiders, skeletons, and zombies--spawn during nighttime or in dark places, such as caves. Some Minecraft-unique creatures have been observed by reviewers, like the Creeper, an exploding creature that sneaks up on the player; and the Enderman, a creature having the ability to teleport and grab blocks.
