Minecraft is a sandbox video game at first created by Swedish game artist Markus "Notch" Persson, and developed and printed by Mojang later. The creative and building aspects of Minecraft allow players to construct constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D procedurally generated world. Other activities in the overall game include exploration, source of information gathering, crafting, and fight. Multiple gameplay settings are available, including survival function where the player must acquire resources to generate the world and keep maintaining health, a creative setting where players have unlimited resources to make with and the ability to fly, an excursion method where players can play custom maps created by other players, and a spectator function where players can take flight around and clip through blocks, but cannot place or ruin any. The Personal computer version of the game is noted for its modding scene, where a dedicated community creates new gameplay mechanics, items, and resources for the game.Minecraft received reward from critics after release, and earned numerous accolades and prizes. As of June 2016, over 106 million copies have been sold across all platforms, with more than 40 million unique players each full month, making it the best-selling PC game at this point and the second best-selling gaming of all right time, only behind the many releases of Tetris. In 2014 September, Microsoft declared a deal to buy Mojang and the Minecraft intellectual property for US$2.5 billion, with the acquisition later being completed 8 weeks.

Minecraft is a three-dimensional sandbox game that does not have any specific goals for the participant to perform, allowing players plenty of flexibility in choosing how to play the gameHowever, there is an accomplishment system. Gameplay by default is first person, but players have the option to experiment with in third person function. The core gameplay revolves around breaking and inserting blocks. The game world comprises rough 3D objects--mainly cubes--arranged in a set grid pattern and representing different materials, such as dirt, stone, various ores, water, lava, tree trunks, etc. While players can move across the world freely, objects can only just be located at fixed locations on the grid. Players can collect these materials blocks and place them elsewhere, thus enabling various constructions. At the start of the game, the ball player is placed on the top of the procedurally produced and almost infinite game world. The global world is divided into biomes ranging from deserts to jungles to snowfield. Players can walk across the terrain consisting of plains, mountains, forests, caves, and different water bodies. The in-game time system comes after a full day and night cycle, with one full pattern long lasting 20 real-time minutes. Throughout the course of the game, players face various non-player people known as mobs, including pets, villagers and hostile animals. Non-hostile animals--such as cows, pigs, and chickens--can be hunted for food and crafting materials, and spawn in the day time. By contrast, hostile mobs--such as large spiders, skeletons, and zombies--spawn during nighttime or in dark places, such as caves. Some Minecraft-unique creatures have been known by reviewers, like the Creeper, an exploding creature that sneaks up on the ball player; and the Enderman, a creature having the ability to teleport and grab blocks.
