Minecraft is a sandbox video game at first created by Swedish game artist Markus "Notch" Persson, and later developed and released by Mojang. The creative and building areas of Minecraft permit players to develop constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D procedurally made world. Other activities in the overall game include exploration, source gathering, crafting, and battle. Multiple gameplay modes are available, including survival mode where the player must acquire resources to make the global world and keep maintaining health, a creative function where players have unlimited resources to construct with and the capability to fly, an excitement function where players can play custom maps created by other players, and a spectator function where players can journey around and clip through blocks, but cannot place or demolish any. As of 2016 June, over 106 million copies have been sold across all platforms, with an increase of than 40 million unique players each full month, making it the best-selling PC game thus far and the second best-selling gaming of most right time, only behind the many releases of Tetris. In September 2014, Microsoft announced a package to buy Mojang and the Minecraft intellectual property for US$2.5 billion, with the acquisition later being completed two months.

Minecraft is a three-dimensional sandbox game that does not have any specific goals for the player to perform, allowing players plenty of flexibility in choosing how that can be played the gameHowever, there can be an success system. Gameplay by default is first person, but players have the choice to experience in third person setting. The core gameplay revolves around placing and breaking blocks. The overall game world is composed of rough 3D objects--mainly cubes--arranged in a set grid pattern and representing different materials, such as dirt, stone, various ores, water, lava, tree trunks, etc. While players can move easily around the world, objects can only be located at fixed locations on the grid. Players can get these materials place and blocks them somewhere else, thus allowing for various constructions.In the beginning of the game, the ball player is located on the surface of any procedurally generated and nearly infinite game world. The global world is divided into biomes ranging from deserts to jungles to snowfield. Players can walk across the terrain comprising plains, mountains, forests, caves, and various water bodies. The in-game time system practices a day and night pattern, with one full circuit enduring 20 real-time minutes. Through the entire course of the overall game, players encounter various non-player individuals known as mobs, including pets or animals, villagers and hostile animals. Non-hostile animals--such as cows, pigs, and chickens--can be hunted for crafting and food materials, and spawn in the daytime. By contrast, hostile mobs--such as large spiders, skeletons, and zombies--spawn during nighttime or in dark places, such as caves. Some Minecraft-unique animals have been known by reviewers, such as the Creeper, an exploding creature that sneaks up on the player; and the Enderman, a creature having the ability to teleport and pick up blocks.
