Minecraft is a sandbox gaming formerly created by Swedish game developer Markus "Notch" Persson, and later developed and shared by Mojang. The creative and building areas of Minecraft enable players to make constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D procedurally generated world. Alternative activities in the game include exploration, reference gathering, crafting, and fight. Multiple gameplay methods are available, including survival function where the player must acquire resources to develop the world and maintain health, a creative method where players have unlimited resources to develop with and the capability to fly, an excitement mode where players can play custom maps created by other players, and a spectator function where players can take a flight around and clip through blocks, but cannot place or ruin any. The PC version of the game is noted for its modding scene, in which a dedicated community creates new gameplay mechanics, items, and belongings for the overall game.Minecraft received praise from critics after release, and gained numerous accolades and accolades. As of June 2016, over 106 million copies have been sold across all platforms, with an increase of than 40 million unique players each full month, rendering it the best-selling PC game to date and the next best-selling gaming of all time, only behind the various releases of Tetris. In September 2014, Microsoft announced a deal to buy Mojang and the Minecraft intellectual property for US$2.5 billion, with the acquisition being completed 8 weeks later.
Minecraft is a three-dimensional sandbox game that does not have any specific goals for the participant to accomplish, allowing players plenty of freedom in choosing how to play the gameHowever, there can be an success system. Gameplay by default is first person, but players have the choice to experiment with in third person setting. The core gameplay revolves around positioning and breaking blocks. The game world is composed of rough 3D objects--mainly cubes--arranged in a set grid pattern and representing different materials, such as dirt, stone, various ores, water, lava, tree trunks, etc. While players can move easily across the world, objects can only just be placed at set locations on the grid. Players can collect these material blocks and place them elsewhere, thus allowing for various constructions.In the beginning of the game, the participant is positioned on the top of a procedurally generated and practically infinite game world. The global world is split into biomes ranging from deserts to jungles to snowfield. Players can walk over the terrain comprising plains, mountains, forests, caves, and various water bodies. The in-game time system comes after a night and day cycle, with one full circuit long lasting 20 real-time minutes. Through the entire course of the game, players come across various non-player characters known as mobs, including pets, villagers and hostile animals. Non-hostile animals--such as cows, pigs, and chickens--can be hunted for crafting and food materials, and spawn in the daytime. In comparison, hostile mobs--such as large spiders, skeletons, and zombies--spawn during nighttime or in dark places, such as caves. Some Minecraft-unique animals have been known by reviewers, including the Creeper, an exploding creature that sneaks through to the player; and the Enderman, a creature having the ability to teleport and grab blocks.
