Minecraft is a three-dimensional sandbox game that has no specific goals for the participant to accomplish, allowing players plenty of independence in choosing how to experiment with the gameHowever, there is an achievements system. Gameplay by default is first person, but players have the option to experience in third person function. The core gameplay revolves around putting and breaking blocks. The game world is composed of rough 3D objects--mainly cubes--arranged in a set grid pattern and representing different materials, such as dirt, stone, various ores, water, lava, tree trunks, etc. While players can move around the world freely, objects can only be put at resolved locations on the grid. Players can gather these materials blocks and place them in other places, thus allowing for various constructions. In the beginning of the game, the ball player is placed on the top of any procedurally produced and nearly infinite game world. The planet is split into biomes which range from deserts to jungles to snowfield. Players can walk over the terrain consisting of plains, mountains, forests, caves, and various water bodies. The in-game time system practices a full night and day routine, with one full cycle lasting 20 real-time minutes. Throughout the course of the game, players come across various non-player people known as mobs, including family pets, villagers and hostile animals. Non-hostile animals--such as cows, pigs, and chickens--can be hunted for crafting and food materials, and spawn in the daytime. In comparison, hostile mobs--such as large spiders, skeletons, and zombies--spawn during nighttime or in dark places, such as caves. Some Minecraft-unique animals have been mentioned by reviewers, including the Creeper, an exploding creature that sneaks through to the ball player; and the Enderman, a creature with the ability to teleport and pick up blocks.
