Minecraft is a sandbox video game at first created by Swedish game custom made Markus "Notch" Persson, and later developed and publicized by Mojang. Alternative activities in the game include exploration, source gathering, crafting, and combat. Multiple gameplay settings are available, including survival function where the player must acquire resources to make the world and keep maintaining health, a creative function where players have unlimited resources to make with and the capability to fly, an experience method where players can play custom maps created by other players, and a spectator mode where players can travel around and clip through blocks, but cannot place or kill any. The PC version of the game is noted because of its modding scene, in which a dedicated community creates new gameplay technicians, items, and resources for the overall game.Minecraft received reward from critics after release, and acquired numerous accolades and honours. As of June 2016, over 106 million copies have been sold across all platforms, with more than 40 million unique players each full month, making it the best-selling PC game at this point and the second best-selling gaming of most right time, only behind the many releases of Tetris. In 2014 September, Microsoft announced a offer to buy Mojang and the Minecraft intellectual property for US$2.5 billion, with the acquisition later being completed 8 weeks.

Gameplay by default is first person, but players have the option to learn in third person method. The core gameplay revolves around breaking and putting blocks. The game world comprises rough 3D objects--mainly cubes--arranged in a set grid pattern and representing different materials, such as dirt, stone, various ores, water, lava, tree trunks, etc. While players can move around the world freely, objects can only be placed at fixed locations on the grid. The global world is split into biomes which range from deserts to jungles to snowfield. Players can walk across the terrain comprising plains, mountains, forests, caves, and various water bodies. The in-game time system practices a full day and night pattern, with one full routine prolonged 20 real-time minutes. Throughout the course of the overall game, players come across various non-player personas known as mobs, including pets, villagers and hostile animals. Non-hostile animals--such as cows, pigs, and chickens--can be hunted for crafting and food materials, and spawn in the daytime. By contrast, hostile mobs--such as large spiders, skeletons, and zombies--spawn during nighttime or in dark places, such as caves. Some Minecraft-unique creatures have been mentioned by reviewers, like the Creeper, an exploding creature that sneaks up on the ball player; and the Enderman, a creature having the ability to teleport and grab blocks.
