Minecraft is a sandbox video game at first created by Swedish game developer Markus "Notch" Persson, and developed and published by Mojang later. The creative and building aspects of Minecraft allow players to make constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D procedurally generated world. Other activities in the overall game include exploration, source of information gathering, crafting, and fight. Multiple gameplay modes are available, including survival mode where the player must acquire resources to generate the global world and maintain health, a creative method where players have unlimited resources to develop with and the capability to fly, an excitement mode where players can play custom maps created by other players, and a spectator mode where players can travel around and clip through blocks, but cannot place or ruin any. The PC version of the game is noted for its modding scene, in which a dedicated community creates new gameplay technicians, items, and assets for the overall game.Minecraft received reward from critics after release, and won numerous accolades and honours. As of June 2016, over 106 million copies have been sold across all platforms, with an increase of than 40 million unique players each full month, making it the best-selling PC game thus far and the next best-selling gaming of most right time, only behind the various releases of Tetris. In September 2014, Microsoft released a package to buy Mojang and the Minecraft intellectual property for US$2.5 billion, with the acquisition being completed two months later.

Minecraft is a three-dimensional sandbox game that does not have any specific goals for the player to accomplish, allowing players a great amount of independence in choosing how to try out the gameHowever, there can be an achievements system. Gameplay by default is first person, but players have the option to experience in third person setting. The core gameplay revolves around placing and breaking blocks. The game world is composed of rough 3D objects--mainly cubes--arranged in a set grid pattern and representing different materials, such as dirt, stone, various ores, water, lava, tree trunks, etc. While players can move around the world freely, objects can only be placed at predetermined locations on the grid. Players can collect these materials blocks and place them elsewhere, thus allowing for various constructions. In the beginning of the game, the participant is placed on the top of an procedurally produced and nearly infinite game world. The earth is divided into biomes ranging from deserts to jungles to snowfield. Players can walk across the terrain consisting of plains, mountains, forests, caves, and different water bodies. The in-game time system comes after a night and day routine, with one full circuit lasting 20 real-time minutes. Throughout the course of the game, players face various non-player character types known as mobs, including pets, villagers and hostile creatures. Non-hostile animals--such as cows, pigs, and chickens--can be hunted for food and crafting materials, and spawn in the daytime. In comparison, hostile mobs--such as large spiders, skeletons, and zombies--spawn during nighttime or in dark places, such as caves. Some Minecraft-unique creatures have been mentioned by reviewers, like the Creeper, an exploding creature that sneaks through to the participant; and the Enderman, a creature with the ability to teleport and grab blocks.
