Minecraft is a sandbox video game formerly created by Swedish game developer Markus "Notch" Persson, and developed and shared by Mojang later. The creative and building aspects of Minecraft allow players to create constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D procedurally generated world. Alternative activities in the game include exploration, source gathering, crafting, and combat. Multiple gameplay modes are available, including survival setting where the player must acquire resources to build the world and maintain health, a creative method where players have unlimited resources to create with and the capability to fly, an experience mode where players can play custom maps created by other players, and a spectator setting where players can fly around and clip through blocks, but cannot place or ruin any. The Computer version of the game is noted because of its modding scene, where a dedicated community creates new gameplay technicians, items, and resources for the game.Minecraft received praise from critics upon release, and received numerous prizes and accolades. As of June 2016, over 106 million copies have been sold across all platforms, with more than 40 million unique players each full month, making it the best-selling PC game to date and the second best-selling gaming of all right time, only behind the many releases of Tetris. In 2014 September, Microsoft declared a offer to buy Mojang and the Minecraft intellectual property for US$2.5 billion, with the acquisition later being completed two months.
Minecraft is a three-dimensional sandbox game that does not have any specific goals for the participant to accomplish, allowing players plenty of freedom in choosing how to play the gameHowever, there is an achievements system. Gameplay by default is first person, but players have the option to experiment with in third person setting. The core gameplay revolves around breaking and inserting blocks. The game world is composed of rough 3D objects--mainly cubes--arranged in a set grid pattern and representing different materials, such as dirt, stone, various ores, water, lava, tree trunks, etc. While players can move openly around the world, objects can only be placed at predetermined locations on the grid. Players can gather these material place and blocks them somewhere else, thus allowing for various constructions. In the beginning of the game, the ball player is put on the top of an procedurally made and virtually infinite game world. The world is divided into biomes which range from deserts to jungles to snowfield. Players can walk over the terrain comprising plains, mountains, forests, caves, and various water bodies. The in-game time system follows a full night and day cycle, with one full routine long lasting 20 real-time minutes. Through the entire course of the game, players encounter various non-player people known as mobs, including pets, villagers and hostile animals. Non-hostile animals--such as cows, pigs, and chickens--can be hunted for food and crafting materials, and spawn in the daytime. By contrast, hostile mobs--such as large spiders, skeletons, and zombies--spawn during nighttime or in dark places, such as caves. Some Minecraft-unique animals have been noted by reviewers, including the Creeper, an exploding creature that sneaks through to the ball player; and the Enderman, a creature with the ability to teleport and grab blocks.
